Every day we often find and see that something or someone we like or we do not like because of your own reasons. In daily communication, there are plenty of phrases to use for showing our ‘likes and dislikes’.
For instance, early morning you are going to have breakfast before leaving for school or work. There is one meal you do not like it, how to express that situations? Or, you find that on your dining table your mom has cooked your favorite foods. How to express your feeling? Let’s find out!
Here are some expressions you can use to show how much your likes and dislikes
If you love something:
- I like fried rice.
- I love watching news.
- My father is crazy about soccer. etc.
If you like something a lot:
- I like writing so much.
- We really love eating meatballs.
- I’m fond of speaking English with my classmates. etc.
If you neither like nor dislike something:
- I don’t mind having lunch now or later.
- I don’t care if he comes or not.
- It’s all the same to me. etc.
If you really dislike something:
- I can’t stand of waiting for long time.
- I don’t like Dangdut music at all.
- I can’t bear working in a dirty table. etc.
Generally, when we express likes and dislike by using the words of ‘likes’, ‘love’, ‘mind’, we must add with ‘ing’ form for Verbs, or add a Noun in singular or plural form.

Let’s practice with an example of dialog!
(Ahmad is at home. His friend comes in…Notice how they express their likes and dislikes)
|Ahmad:||Hello, buddy. Do you fancy watching a film tonight?|
|Friend:||Oh, no thanks, I don’t really feel like watching a film tonight. How about going out instead.|
|Ahmad:||OK. Do you feel like going to the theater?|
|Friend:||Oh, no. I hate it. Do you like eating at the new Chinese restaurant?|
|Ahmad:||I don’t mind. The Chinese cuisine is alright.|
|Friend:||Well I really love it. Let’s go.|
